Anton Lohuis founded his company in 1970 and has managed its growth into a major, global player in lighting.

Now he’s hoping to lead the shift to LED lighting in his native country, the Netherlands, with the crowd on board.

With 2 loan crowdfunding campaigns already successful, LOHUIS is now seeking €250,000 via equity to kick its plan into action.

LOHUIS is now crowdfunding on Symbid, view the pitch and invest here.

  1. When did you decide to become an entrepreneur, and why?

I became an entrepreneur back in 1970. Like so many others, I was motivated by dissatisfaction with the world around me. Business is just a word meaning “being busy”. Being an entrepreneur means working day and night to make the world a little better; the money you make will be used to make other people in your environment a little happier. Making other people happier will result in being happy yourself.

  1. What kind of entrepreneur are you?

I am a hard-working, socially motivated entrepreneur with a vision. I believe you should contribute to your world in as many ways as possble. My present business is a good example of that.

We provide products and services that make this world greener, save energy, reduce carbon emissions, reduce the cost of ownership and of use, create jobs and income for many people. Ultimately our products increase the quality of life itself!

  1. In a few sentences, introduce your company

I entered the lighting industry 45 years ago and have watched it evolve 3 times ever since. Communication tools became better and technology also changed dramatically. The latest technological adavancement involves light emitting diodes (LED) that emit more light using less energy. LED lights are superior to all other lighting technologies being used today.

My company promotes the use of LEDs as an energy saving tool by providing advice to potential customers through a network of consultants.

  1. Describe the past, present and future of your company

Back in 1970 our company the company specialised in lamps for aircraft, medical applications, and signalling purposes. By 1987 we were considered a giant in miniature lamps. We supplied to more than 3000 customers in the Netherlands and 1000 more in 75 other countries.

LOHUIS are looking to crack the greenhouse market

A changing world and changing market demands made it necessary to decentralise our operations instead of working from a centralised place. Hence a network of franchisees was established in many countries in the world, all selling the LOHUIS brand but importing directly from the manufacturers in China.

Since then the company has reopened its activities in the Netherlands, now focusing on the advantages of LEDs only. Our current business mode can be reproduced in every European country and we are looking forward to producing specialised LED products in our native country.

  1. What is the unique value of the products/services you offer?

The combination of 45 years of lighting experience and the ability to convey this expertise through a network of consultants give face-to-face advice gives us a competitive edge. Our product is ahead of the market both in terms of price and quality.

Our unique route to market and energy-saving promises will ensure our products get the chance to prove themselves.

  1. What is the main goal of your equity crowdfunding campaign?

To let the crowd’s money work for the crowd’s needs with an “everybody happy” result.

  1. Why did you choose crowdfunding?

When I founded LOHUIS we were too small for the banks to even consider us. Now we simply prefer the crowd since our investors become supporters of our green initiatives while also receiving decent profits.

  1. Give 3 key reasons to invest in your company
  • Significant profits if we can conquer the greenhouse market;
  • Use your money to help create a greener, more sustainable world for our (grand)children;
  • Help the world to better understand the effects of climate change and do something about it.
